Cape Town

This entry is part 1 of 5 in the series Cape Town

Don’t know where to go on your next holiday? Go to Cape Town, The Mother City! The city that has everything and more! Blessed with beautiful scenery, set in lush surroundings, palm trees, hills and mountains covered in green, long stretches of beach all around. The weather is incredible – warm with a nice breeze. From most places in the city you can see the impressive Table Mountain which sometimes have a thin layer of clouds falling down over the edges, just like the smoke in the theater.

The city is nice and clean, never crowded, in fact you never have to squeeze or get out of the way when you pass people (like you have to in Copenhagen) because it is so spacious. Yet you can always get a taxi within a few minutes, which by the way costs next to nothing and the drivers are the most happy and friendly people you will meet. It is so cheap and such a joy that you just feel like tipping!

Eating and going out is equally cheap and the service is flawless every time. Want to party? Long Street, in the middle of the city, is a couple of kilometers long and packed with clubs, bars and pubs side by side and the party is always going strong. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday, it is all party day. Even when you abused yourself all night and have no idea what happened, you still wake up and wonder if you robbed someone because you hardly spend any money, even though you were drinking like your life depended on it.

Not only that, but you can do everything and anything in Cape Town and it’s surroundings! Diving, shark cage diving, sky diving, bungy jumping (the highest in the world from a bridge), shoot with guns, watch whales, dolphins, penguins and seals, abseiling from Table Mountain (the highest abseil in the world) paragliding, parasailing, quad biking, sand boarding, surfing – got enough action yet? You have hikes all around the city. Even inside the city! Go on safari and see the big 5. You can go on a load of tours in the city as well as the surrounding areas. Go check out the rich culture and history of the city and the nation, go wine tasting, go explore the peninsula and see the beautiful Cape Point and Cape Good Hope. Go to Robben Island where Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years, go see the townships and taste the local beer, which takes 6-7 days to brew or learn to play djembe. Go ride a horse, cruise around in a boat, take a helicopter ride, rent a car (which is, as you may guess, really cheap as well) and explore the beautiful countryside or even go on a road trip to any of the adjacent countries.

Seen it all, done it all before? Then go fly your own subsonic jet! Yes, you even get the chance to fly it yourself! This is probably the only thing in Cape Town that is not cheap tough. If you at some point want to relax, then go watch the sunset from one of the hills or mountains or go to one of the numerous beaches. Feel like being nude? Go to the nudist beach in Sandy Bay. If you want to shop, go get lost in the huge mall at the waterfront. Whatever you want to do, you can do it in Cape Town, as long as it doesn’t require snow or frost, because that is probably the only thing you won’t find here. Enjoy your stay!
